BaD Karma was founded August 7th 2002 by David Hocking (aka .50CAL) for the purpose of bringing together people who liked to play America’s Army. The squad’s name was chosen from a movie “Navy Seals” where the term was used and the tags were chosen by Cappifire.
Originally the squad was supposed to be a Toronto based squad but that requirement was gone by the end of the month when Hatchmo, an American, was allowed to join the squad. Most of BaD Karma’s early recruiting was done on the Janos bridge server. There the squad picked up many different types of players from defensive campers to assaulting rambos, but the thing that all of the players had in common was the fun they had together while playing. Players to come out of this era of -=BDK=- are Anahka, Burstar, Capifire, DarkPhalanx, Drunkenmaster16, FW25F1, KHarvey16, Maniac, Nekobob, the three Getaos, Rocaix, Saber, Striker, Swood, Thuddome, Whiterider and Wookie.
The squad quickly grew to one of the largest in the America’s Army community. Due to its size the squad formed different sub squads. Alpha was for a squad formed of all the top dogs of the squad. Bravo was a squad of the more dedicated players headed by Saber and then later Anahka. Charlie was a squad of slightly lesser dedicated players headed by Rocaix. The competitiveness between Bravo and Charlie grew exponentially and the practice of intra-squad scrims was formed. To many people within the squad’s surprise, the Charlie team was able to take the Bravo squad in this first scrim. This prompted the creation of Delta squad, the elite of the elite squad. You had to show dedication and determination to be in this squad of BaD Karma. There was also a short lived Echo squad within -=BDK=- that was headed by Blackhawk. There was a falling out between Blackhawk and the rest of the leadership during his tenure and he is subsequently called Asshawk and has the great distinction of being the first ever booted from -=BDK=-.
A few months after the original version came out there were patches coming out monthly. One of these patches was a favorite within the -=BDK=- community, it contained the map Mountain Pass which set off BaD Karma’s second recruiting storm. Coming in with this round of recruits were admiralhoy, AnimalMutha, Infinite, PoodyTang, RetSgtCas, RoughRider, UltimatePG.
During this period of the history BaD Karma developed a few traditions that have stuck around until this day. One of these is the famous vent session, started by Sunshine, jamcadbury and Wookie, the first two of whom got picked up to strengthen the CQB section of the squad. The first victim of the vent session is fittingly rumored to be RoughRiderNY, he made sure to continue the practice with every new recruit that joined up with the squad. Also the practice of forum spamming was taken to by a good portion of the squad. The result: threads consisting of little more than emoticons riddling the landscape of the private forums. This is what many people consider the golden ages of BaD Karma and will forever be remembered by the people who took part in the rituals.
With all of the outdoor players that the squad picked up, they realized that they were pretty weak in the CQB area. With a few good men trolling the pipeline and insurgent camp servers, we were able to pick up a few names such as dans, Nick5678, Rotor, -killme-, Flack, Hokie, RaiderHank, Blade, Houdini, R6, Trapper50Cal, Dreamer, CutThroat, DarkRogue, Rebs, N!ghtmare, Mako, Uber, Jhill123, fearbot, BadBoy, killaman, Wally, Kilroy, Goodfellow, Mitsumi.
